Baldaeus Theological College (BTC) is a multi-denominational, evangelical institution that was founded in January 2000. BTC’s task and vision is to provide theological education and training for pastors, teachers and evangelists to equip them to diligently study, faithfully expound and relevantly apply the Word of God in the Northeast of Sri Lanka. This region has been devastated by war and poverty. We are keen to develop within each student a real vision for missions that will continue with them and spur them on in their future ministries. We are creating a vision not just for the local area and this country of Sri Lanka, but also the wider mission field overseas.
BTC endeavours to provide field training for the students to prepare them as they launch into different church based ministries. A significant part of the field training takes place in the Hatton – Nuwara Eliya region and in order to facilitate and enhance this training a permanent ‘mission station’ is being established in Hatton. BTC’s presence in Hatton is opening other opportunities for ministry to the churches in the plantation sector.
Baldaeus offers a Baldeaus Diploma in Missions, Diploma in Theology and Bachelor of Theology. BTC has one of the best theological libraries in the Northeast, with about 5,000 volumes, including a special collection in South Asian culture, religion and history.
The average student age at BTC is 25, some are single and others have families. The student body is thoroughly multi-ethnic, composed of Tamils and Sinhalese. They come from a wide variety of backgrounds and denominations.
