MBI, Macau

Macau Bible Institute

MBI was founded as the first evangelical seminary in Macau in 1982, with Pastor Paul Chi serving as the first principal. In 1984, MBI moved into Merry Court and in 1991 inaugurated the new student dormitory in the Wing Shun Building.

MBI provides theological and interdisciplinary education to develop pastors, missionaries, and evangelists. MBI also provides continuing education for pastors and church workers, and assists churches in training the laity while providing strategic research and spiritual support for Macau churches and pastors.

Macau Bible Institute is the only transdenominational seminary in Macau. With more than two decades of strong partnership with local Chinese churches, MBI assumes a unique and strategic role in developing indigenous Christian workers, as well as in transforming the lives of believers. It provides a Bible-centered curriculum, places strong emphasis on community building and discipleship training, and adopts a holistic training approach, which includes theological, spiritual, intellectual, emotional, relational, and ministerial training. In addition, MBI offers contextualized programs to meet the tangible needs of the Chinese churches.

Most of the graduates are in full-time pastoral or Christian ministry, primarily in Macau or Hong Kong. A recent count indicated that MBI graduates are pastoring in approximately 1/3 of the churches in Macau. There are also MBI alumni serving in the USA and Australia, and on mission fields in Brazil, Cambodia, and Myanmar.
