Resourcing sustainable theological education in the developing world

ATS, Philippines

Asian Theological Seminary, Quezon City, Philippines

The Asian Theological Seminary began thirty years ago with two professors and only a few students. Today ATS is the largest graduate-level, interdenominational seminary in Southeast Asia. Located in Quezon City, Philippines, ATS exists to provide quality theological education to train workers for the church in Asia. These workers include pastors, evangelists, para-church ministry leaders and cross-cultural missionaries. They also include lay leaders who minister in local congregations, as well as those who are salt and light in the community. ATS has expanded their counseling program and their urban ministries program. They also partner with the Asia Graduate School of Theology to offer three doctoral programs and a master of theology degree.

ATS encourages their many international students to return to their home countries, contributing to the goal of strengthening the leadership of the rapidly growing Asian church. Recognizing that lay ministry is crucial, ATS continues to train Christians for all areas of society, particularly in the workplace and the community. However, ATS also emphasizes the need for high-level education to properly support and train leaders. Their resources, course offerings, and strategic plan, ensure that ATS graduates will continue to be an integral part of church growth in Asia.
